The Green Bay Packers chose to pass on wide receiver, tight end, and safety in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. GM Brian Gutekunst did prioritize the defense yet again, taking the top-edge prospect out of the University of Iowa. While fans seem split, many analysts are praising the pick. Dane Bugler of NFLDraftScout.com and CBS Sports loved the pick and compared Lukas Van Ness to a grizzly bear. When the draft pick was announced, Green Bay Packers current defensive end had an announcement of his own.
Preston Smith Makes Announcement After Lukas Van Ness Draft Pick
At the University Of Iowa, Van Ness wore the number 91. Unfortunately, because Preston Smith already has the number, the do-it-all edge will have to pick a new number, right? Not necessarily, as Smith was willing to talk turkey if his new teammate wanted to use some of that first-round money on a new number, too.
Ayeeee you can get 91 for the right price 👀

The offer was there… however, it looks it will not be taken up. Lukas Van Ness has already decided he will wear 90 moving forward and already has a Packers jersey to commemorate the occasion. While Smith may be disappointed that he won’t be landing a nice little paycheck, he can at least appreciate that the Packers’ pass rush just got a whole lot more potent, which is all that really matters.
