The Green Bay Packers defense pulled a disappearing act against the New York Giants. Green Bay chose the wrong time to have zero sacks in a football game against New York, which has one of the worst offenses in the NFL. The Giants won the game over the Packers 24-22.
The Packers defense has been a problem all season long. There are reasons why fans don’t want defensive coordinator Joe Barry back in 2024. It was shocking that players Rashan Gary and Preston Smith didn’t record a sack against this offense.
The New York Giants offensive line has been abysmal all season long and they just let Tommy DeVito comfortable all game long. Green Bay’s defense also couldn’t stop the run as they gave up 209 total rushing yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns. The Giants averaged 6.1 yards per carry in the contest.
Saquon Barkley rushed for 86 of those yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 15 yards receiving. One of the problems all season for the Packers defense has been trying to stop the run. The scheme may be an issue for them, but another thing they are going to need to address in the 2024 NFL Draft is to try and get some run-stoppers.

There are probably going to be changes to Matt LaFleur’s staff in 2024. He suffered his first loss ever in the month of December in his coaching career to 16-1. It is interesting that the Packers have blown leads this season to those quarterbacks. Desmond Ridder, Jimmy Garoppolo, Kenny Pickett, and Tommy DeVito are exactly not elite quarterbacks either. Ridder has benched this season for the Atlanta Falcons, Jimmy Garoppolo is currently injured for the Las Vegas Raiders, Kenny Pickett is currently injured for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tommy DeVito is an undrafted free agent for the New York Giants.
If the 6-7 Green Bay Packers do miss the playoffs this season, there is no doubt that defensive coordinator Joe Barry is going to be the scapegoat for the problems. The fact that they weren’t able to sack the quarterback against a bad New York Giants offense is inexcusable. Also, the two turnovers they did force was because of a brain fart by the Giants special teams and Saquon Barkley was untouched and fumbled on his own.
