When the Green Bay Packers decided to trade future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers so that Jordan Love could take over under center, it was not a popular decision among NFL media members and many of their own fans. When Love and the Packers got off to a slow start in 2023, these fans and analysts relished in their struggles.
However, the young Packers quarterback and his wide receivers started to click after their 3-6 start and ended the year 9-8 and in the NFL Playoffs. For his part, Love had the best first season by any Packers starting quarterback in their long history, completing 62.1% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating.
Colin Cowherd Once Told Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love to Quit Playing Football
After a 2023 preseason game in which Love completed seven of 10 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, controversial sports talk show host Colin Cowherd went off on the Packers young quarterback, suggesting that his performance in that game was so bad that he should just quit playing football altogether.
“Less than seven yard per completion. Less than five yard per attempt. What am I supposed to make of it? Well, what I make of it is that the biggest throw of the game, clean pocket, wide open tight end, and he missed it badly.
“Bro, it’s year four in the NFL. That’s a layup. That’s bad. I know you say, ‘But what about this and what about that?’ They are handholding him! That is a third down, clean pocket, bad miss for a college quarterback.
“He is what I was told throughout the offseason that I thought he would be: he’s a game manager. There’s no special there.
“You can say what you want about Justin Fields at 5-20, but see wow all the time. I saw wow this weekend with Anthony Richardson. I don’t expect Anthony Richardson to be refined and polished.
“But if you’re still wearing floaties year four in the pool, you’re not Michael Phelps. In fact, maybe swimming’s not for you.”
Love, of course, proved Cowherd and his doubters wrong by leading the Packers to the playoffs in his first year as their starting quarterback. He has done it again in Year Two following Green Bay’s 34-0 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.
And now Cowherd is singing a completely different tune.
Colin Cowherd Says Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Is on His Way to the Hall of Fame
In Cowherd’s most recent episode of “The Herd,” he claimed that the Packers have done it again with their star quarterback, going from Brett Favre to Rodgers to Love.
“Three straight quarterbacks — Star, star, star. Favre is in the Hall of Fame, Rodgers will be and Love looks like he’s on his way.”

“There’s a reason the Green Bay Packers, and only the Green Bay Packers, and they’ve done it twice, have drafted a really great quarterback in the first round and sat him for three years. Because they have no owner. No meddling. No ego. No demands.”
After going on a long rant about all the bad owners in the NFL, Cowherd continued, “Yet here’s Green Bay. No meddling. No owner. For years I always saw it as a weakness. Now I see it as a strength.
“All Green Bay does is whatever is best for the development of their young quarterback. Three straight quarterbacks: star, star, star. All three.
Favre is in the Hall of Fame, Rodgers will be, and Love looks like he’s on his way.”
Obviously, Love has a LONG way to go before he can be put in the conversation with other Packers Hall of Fame quarterbacks. But it is interesting to see just how much many national media personalities have changed their tune on the young Packers quarterback and Green Bay in general.
