The Green Bay Packers appear to be headed towards a separation with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Of course, this means that former first round pick, Jordan Love, will take over after sitting behind Rodgers for three years. While some are uncertain or have convinced themselves that Love will not be a good quarterback, one former NFL head coach has the highest of praise for the young quarterback. Mike Martz, who has over 40 years of experience in the NFL as a head coach and offensive coordinator, said he has never been “more shocked or taken by a guy at first glance” than he was with Love.
Mike Martz Has High Praise for Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love
Mike Martz knows a thing or two about good quarterbacks and high-powered offenses. He is, perhaps, best known as being the offensive coordinator for “The Greatest Show on Turf,” the St. Louis Rams team led by Hall of Famer Kurt Warner that won Super Bowl XXXIV. On a video posted by The 33rd Team, a sports media outlet made up of former players and coaches, Martz had nothing but praise for the next starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers:

“From everything I’ve seen of this kid, I would hold onto him. I would do everything, I’d bet the ranch on this guy. When I first saw him, I was dumbfounded when I saw him. I think that just watching him, I’ve never been so shocked or taken by a guy at first glance as I was with Jordan Love.”
Martz goes on to break down some film of Love and praises his leg work, technique, and presence in the pocket. He then says, “What he does with the ball is a lot like what Aaron Rodgers does with it. He’s very quick and accurate like Aaron Rodgers.”

Of Martz’s knowledge of football and quarterbacks, Hall of Fame head coach Dick Vermeil said “”Kurt Warner came off the street, and he made him NFL player of the year…I have great respect for him, and I think he has great respect for me. We took a team to the Super Bowl. Without him we don’t go.”
One quarterback who had a great deal of success under Martz, Marc Bulger, said, “He was by far the smartest football mind I’ve ever been around. The things he was teaching was so far ahead of what others were teaching.”
All of this to say that this is not coming from someone who is uninformed or not qualified to make such a statement. Martz is/was a highly respected quarterback guru. If he sees something in Love, there probably is a lot to be excited about.
