Everyone will remember the Green Bay Packers’ 16-10 win at home in Week 2 for being Malik Willis’ first start for the NFC North team. For Willis, he’ll always think about the game as where he threw his first career touchdown in the NFL. Willis found wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks with a little over three minutes left in the first quarter of the Colts game for a 14-yard score.
On Thursday, Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements got a chance to talk more about that touchdown.
Tom Clements almost chuckling about Malik Willis’ first career TD pass to Dontavyion Wicks: “The throw was good. There was someone more open.”
Willis dotted an out route to Wicks for the TD. Just happened to have Jayden Reed wide open inside same side for first down on 3rd-4.
Will Malik Willis start in Week 3 for the Green Bay Packers?
Willis started against the Colts because Jordan Love was not available due to a knee injury. But Love has looked much better of late. He’s even practiced with the team on the field already. There is no final designation yet about Love’s Week 3 availability, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that a decision could come down up to 90 minutes before kickoff of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans on the road.
Despite Love showing progress, Willis can perhaps be viewed as the likely starter in Week 3 against his former team.
Against the Colts, Willis went 12-of-14 for 122 passing yards with zero interceptions and no sacks taken while rushing six times for 41 yards.
