The Green Bay Packers do not start training camp until next week. However, quarterbacks (including Jordan Love), rookies, and injured players were all required to report to Lambeau Field on Friday, four days early. The reasoning behind this, of course, is for the new rookies to get in more reps that will better prepare them for the 2025 NFL season.

Quarterbacks, of course, are necessary early so that the rookies have players that will throw them the ball and run the offense in early practices. Love, especially, can continue to build rapport and chemistry with his new wide receivers, giving the offense a better chance of being successful when the season begins.

And as for injured players, their reporting early is necessary so that they can be examined by team doctors. By doing so, the Packers can determine if they are going to be able to practice when training camp begins or if they need to be placed on an injured list.

Green Bay Packers Starters Christian Watson, Quay Walker, and Elgton Jenkins Will All Start Camp on Injured Lists

As expected, wide receiver Christian Watson reported for camp on Friday and was immediately put on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. This was expected because the speedy pass catcher tore his ACL in Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season. Due to the nature of the injury, and its recovery timetable, he will likely not be ready for the start of this upcoming season.

However, Watson is not the only starter from last year’s team that was placed on the PUP list. He has been joined, unfortunately, by linebacker Quay Walker, whom Matt Schneidman of The Athletic said was dealing with an undisclosed injury during OTA’s.

In addition to these two starters being on the PUP list, the Packers have also put Elgton Jenkins, who is moving from left guard to center, on the non-football injury list. The nature of his injury has not been disclosed.

Earlier this offseason, Jenkins made headlines as he sought a revised contract with Green Bay as his job title has changed.

In addition to these players, guard John Williams, cornerback Micah Robinson, and linebacker Colin Oliver are being placed on the PUP list. Running back Amar Johnson and kicker Alex Hale are joining Jenkins on the non-football injury list.

The Packers placed the following on PUP:
    WR Christian Watson
    G John Williams
    LB Quay Walker
    LB Collin Oliver
    DB Micah Robinson

The Packers placed the following on NFI:
    RB Amar Johnson
    OL Elgton Jenkins
    K Alex Hale

Players on the PUP and NFL lists can be activated at any time. While Watson is expected to miss several weeks, hopefully none of the others will be out for very long.
