The Green Bay Packers are looking to make some potential adjustments in the wide receiver room this offseason. Last year, there was a ton of hope for Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks.
Entering this offseason, things are going to be different for this position. Watson could miss most of the 2025 season with a torn ACL. Romeo Doubs could very well get traded this NFL offseason. The Green Bay Packers may either have to sign or draft a potential number-one wide receiver option for quarterback Jordan Love.
Green Bay Packers Journalist Asks Fans If They Should Bring Back Marquez Valdes-Scantling Next Year To Replace Christian Watson
There is no doubt that the Packers are going to be in the wide receiver market this offseason. The question is, which wide receiver are they going to get? Zach Kruse of the Packers wire asked on his Twitter page:
“With Christian Watson out for probably 3/4ths of next season, would you consider bringing back Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a vet minimum deal?”
There were a lot of Green Bay Packers fans who did not like this question on his page. A lot of Packers fans have the right to feel this way because Valdes-Scantling was hot and cold in the past with the Green Bay Packers.
Cem Yolbulan of dairylandexpress.com Has His Take On This Move
Cem Yolbulan of dairylandexpress.com had his own opinion of the question that Kruse asked on his Twitter page about Valdes-Scantling replacing Watson for next season. Yolbulan said:
“Many Packers fans will take issue with the suggestion. MVS has been a frustrating pass-catcher throughout his career, including his four seasons in Green Bay. He struggles with inconsistency and dropped passes. Considering how drops were a big issue for the Packers this season, it’s understandable that some fans would be hesitant to bring Valdes-Scantling in.
At the same time, MVS would not cost much. He would likely accept a one-year, “prove-it” deal. If he doesn’t look like he could make an impact, he could be cut after training camp. If he still has some fuel left in the tank, however, he is as close to Watson as a player profile as the Packers could realistically get. It may not be the most exciting free-agent target for Green Bay but MVS would be worth a look.”
Marquez Valdes-Scantling this past season played for the New Orleans Saints. He caught 19 passes for 411 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 21.6 yards per reception. Valdes-Scantling was targeted 44 times.
He was with the Green Bay Packers from 2018-2021. Valdes-Scantling has played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, and the New Orleans Saints ever since. It would be a surprise to see Marquez Valdes-Scantling back with the Packers to replace Christian Watson instead because they need to sign players like Tee Higgins instead.
