The Green Bay Packers will not have Christian Watson for the playoffs because of a torn ACL. Watson may miss the entire 2025 NFL season as well. For now, the top three wide receivers on the Packers roster are Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks.
Should the Green Bay Packers sign a free-agent wide receiver before the start of the playoffs to replace Watson or not? Christian Watson this season caught 29 passes for 620 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 21.4 yards per catch. He was also targeted 53 times in 15 games played this season for the Packers.
Lombardiavenue.com Writer Eric Fischer Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Should Sign Former Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Kadarius Toney To Replace Christian Watson
Lombardiavenue.com writer Eric Fischer wrote about three different free agent wide receivers who the Packers could sign ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles to potentially replace Christian Watson. One name that Fischer mentioned was former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney.
Toney has not worked out great in a few places he has been during his NFL career. However, Fischer said as to why it could maybe work for him in Green Bay:
“Kadarius Toney has a lot of flaws. He has had a career plagued with drops, social media issues, and availability concerns. Toney appeared in one game for the Browns this season, recording one rush for a loss of seven yards and a muffed punt.
So, what would be the appeal? Toney is just 25 and has won two Super Bowls, including scoring the go-ahead touchdown in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles. He is also, without a doubt, the fastest guy on this list, having run a 4.37 40-yard dash at the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine.
Of the guys on this list, Toney is probably the closest to the style of play that Watson provides. Toney is a legitimate burner and can open up the field with that downfield presence, even if he may struggle to catch the football.”
Toney does not have quality stats for the 2024 NFL season. In his career, he has caught 82 passes for 760 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 9.3 yards per carry. Kadarius Toney has been targeted 116 times.
Finding Help From Within
No team in the NFL wants to deal with Kadarius Toney at this point despite the talent he has shown in the past with the New York Giants, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Cleveland Browns. He would be a headache for the Green Bay Packers to deal with.
Bo Melton and Malik Heath could be some of the other wide receivers who will step up for the Green Bay Packers with Christian Watson absent. Also, keep an eye on tight end Luke Musgrave as well. Instead of signing Kadarius Toney, they should rely on Josh Jacobs running the football and Jordan Love passing it to Tucker Kraft. However, signing Toney to the Packers would be very intriguing.
