The Green Bay Packers are in a period of transition. For the first time in 30 years, someone not named Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre is [probably] going into Week One as their starting quarterback. Jordan Love, by all accounts from coaches and teammates, is ready to take over the offense. According to a report, Packers’ offensive skill players Aaron Jones, Romeo Doubs, and Christian Watson are all flying out to California to get some work in with Love. One of these players, Watson, appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and talked about playing with Rodgers and his connection with Love.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson Talks Aaron Rodgers

While Rodgers is often painted as a gruff veteran who does not like to mingle with younger players, Watson stated that he never really got that vibe from the future Hall of Famer:
“I think the first time I saw him he had come through it was right before the mandatory mini camps he came in and he just walked by me and said (jovially) ‘what’s good North Dakota State?’
“I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to play with him my rookie season and be able to pick his brain. My number one goal going into last year was just to pick the veterans mind as much as possible. You never know when those guys are going to be done or when they’re gonna be gone so I just tried to learn as much as possible from him.
“Whenever I had a question whenever I had something in my mind even if it seemed like a dumb question he was always open to answering that for me and giving me his mindset on that. I think he helped me develop a lot. I think he helped me gain that confidence that I gained later in the year with his confidence in me.”
And just because Rodgers may be getting traded to the New York Jets does not mean he’s done teaching the Packers’ young wide receiver. When asked when was the last time he talked to Rodgers, Watson said:
“Probably a week or two ago just kind of talking to him about off-season stuff. What can I do to get better and what did you see for me last year that I need to do to improve and stuff like that.”
Christian Watson and Jordan Love Already Have a Strong Connection

Unsurprisingly, Watson and Love already have a strong connection due to their work together in last year’s preseason activities that Rodgers did not attend. Additionally, it sounds like Love took a leadership role among the young wide receivers to help them with their late season push:
“Obviously 12 being the starting quarterback last year it would seem like we wouldn’t have got a lot of time with Jordan, but I spent a lot of time with Jordan Love actually. Whether it was meetings outside of practice to get that playbook down. Us younger guys had meetings with Jordan Love weekly going into the later weeks of the season and we had quite a bit of younger guy developmental stuff that we did early in the season so we got reps in with him. I think that relationship and that connection is strong already.”
It is fascinating that Love, the backup quarterback in 2022, was holding these meetings with the young wide receivers to help them improve. Last season, it seemed as if the younger players and Rodgers were not always on the same page on the field. It does not sound like that will be an issue under Jordan Love.
