Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson missed half of last season with a hamstring injury. On Wednesday during practice on the final play, Watson went up for a jump ball in the end zone against rookie Evan Williams and Watson took a hit to the knee.
He experienced pain in his knee and he was down for several minutes. Christian Watson would finally get up on his own after practice. It will be interesting to see how long Watson will be held out after this collision on Wednesday. Hopefully, it will be nothing serious and he appeared to avoid a major injury to his left knee.
Had Watson dealt with another injury, it would have been a very big deal to him and the Packers fanbase. He needs to stay on the field this year and not be injury-prone.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson Speaks To the Media About What Happened In Practice On Wednesday
After practice was over on Wednesday, Watson spoke to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman about what happened on the play when he injured his knee. Christian Watson said:
“I’m glad Jordan took a shot on that one. I tried to go up and get it. I think we just came down a little awkward. I don’t know if it was his knee or his cleat, but something just kinda hit me in the knee. I think it hurt a lot worse in the moment than I thought. I’m just thankful and obviously was praying that it wasn’t too serious, and it wasn’t. It’s a little sore, but it’s just a bruise, so nothing that’s going to stop me from doing anything … right now, it’s died down a lot, so if we had a practice right now, then I think I would be good to go.”
That is good news that Watson feels okay but we will see if head coach Matt LaFleur takes a precautionary route with him over the next few days. The Packers will face the Cleveland Browns on Saturday in a preseason game.
The plan is for them to play the starters, but will see if Christian Watson is one of them who will suit up. He also added to the media:
“I’ve battled with injuries throughout my career, so it was scary for me just kinda in that moment. Just praying it wasn’t that bad, so just thankful for that.”
Had the injury been worse for the former second-round pick in the 2022 pick, it would be a different conversation on Thursday. Instead, Watson got lucky and hopefully, he can be ready to go in the first week of the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
