The Green Bay Packers are officially looking for a new defensive coordinator after the release of Joe Barry. According to multiple reports, Barry could remain on the Packers staff in some capacity, however, his time as the DC is over. That means the Packers have a major hole to fill within their coaching staff.
One name is quickly garnering attention as he formerly “crushed an interview” with the Packers for the same position.
Green Bay Packers Linked To Former Interviewee Who Previously Crushed An Interview With The Team
A couple of years ago, Titans pass-game coordinator Chris Harris had an impressive interview with the team, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Harris will interview for the Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator position. However, the exact date of the interview was not disclosed.
After interviewing last week for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive coordinator job, Harris is currently a candidate for two positions.
From 2020 to 2022, Harris coached the Washington Commanders’ defensive backs, and during that time, the team ranked eighth in pass defense and fourth in total defense, cementing Harris’ status as a rising star.
The Packers Need A Secondary-Minded Defensive Coordinator
Yes, the Packers’ rush defense will need to be a point of emphasis this off-season, however, their passing defense will need some work as well especially with the amount of uncertainty at cornerback depth and at Safety.
As soon as he announced his retirement from the NFL, the former safety began working as a coach. As with his playing career, Harris’ coaching career began with the Bears. Harris joined the Chargers as an assistant defensive backs coach after two years as Chicago’s defensive quality control coach. Washington hired him for his first full-time coaching position in 2020.
Harris has succeeded in pass defense everywhere he’s worked. Brining him into Green Bay would make a ton of sense.
