Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks received the handoff from quarterback Malik Willis in the final minute of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brooks did not score a touchdown yet in his career.
With the game tied at 27, the Jaguars were going to let him score a touchdown, until he decided to fall short of the end zone. Because of that, Green Bay was able to run more time off the clock. Brandon McManus kicked the game-winning 24-yard field goal as time expired in a 30-27 win for the Packers over the Jaguars.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Chris Brooks Discussed What Happened At the End Of the Game Against the Jacksonville Jaguars
Brooks did not start the year with the Packers. During training camp, he was with the Miami Dolphins. Chris Brooks has been the number two running back for Green Bay behind Josh Jacobs with everything that has gone on with the position this season.
After the game, Brooks spoke to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. He said about the Jaguars trying to let him score in the fourth quarter:
“Just don’t score. That’s the only thing going through my mind … it’s always a pleasure to get the win first and then do whatever I can to help the team.”
Brooks only rushed for 16 yards on four carries in the game. Josh Jacobs got the heavy load for the Packers in this game. He rushed for 127 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
Chris Brooks may need to get more looks moving forward despite the big game from Jacobs. Emanuel Wilson is currently the third running back for the Packers.
Detroit Lions Next Week
With Green Bay winning, they are 6-2 on the season and Jacksonville dropped to 2-6 on the season. Next week, the Packers will host the 6-1 Detroit Lions after they easily beat the Tennessee Titans (1-6 record) 52-14 on Sunday afternoon.
First place will be on the line for the Lions and the Packers next weekend. Both teams may look to use their running backs often to find success. Josh Jacobs will be used no question in the offense next week, but maybe Chris Brooks could be used more in the offense as well.
