The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears own the oldest rivalry in the NFL. In addition to the 70 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame combined (37 Chicago members and 33 Green Bay members), the two teams have won 22 NFL championships combined (13 for Green Bay and 9 for Chicago, first and second among all NFL teams), and five Super Bowl titles (four for Green Bay and one for Chicago).
The Bears held the record for the most wins until 2022, when the Packers surpassed them in a game between the two teams tied at 786 at the time.
Now the two teams will be facing off during the off-season.
The Green Bay Packers And Chicago Bears Are Set To Square Off Before The 2024 Season Starts
According to Luis Medina of Bleacher Nation:
The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers are taking their rivalry from the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field and messy grass surfaces of the Soldier Field to whatever they call the plot of land that is used to play cornhole.
No, seriously.
More from NBC Sports Chicago’s Alex Shapiro, who writes about how Bears and Packers players are playing celebrity cornhole. Or bags. Or whatever you want to call it:
A couple of Bears teammates will renew the Packers rivalry a little early this year, but it won’t be on the gridiron. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and left tackle Braxton Jones will take on Packers running back A.J. Dillon and corner Carrington Valentine in a celebrity cornhole tournament on Saturday night in Milwaukee.
The Bears and Packers players will each be paired with a professional cornhole player in the American Cornhole League Superhole Series V, the fifth iteration of the celebrity cornhole championship.
The tournament in Milwaukee is one of four qualifiers for the championship round in early 2025. Saints quarterback Derek Carr, Bills defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, Texans DT Tim Settle Jr. and Raiders running Alexander Mattison have already qualified for the championship round.
OAW Indoor Sports Complex will host the third qualifier for SuperHole V, featuring plenty of cornhole pros, but it’s likely a different type of professional will draw crowds. Two players from just up I-43 in Green Bay will team up with some of the world’s best cornholers:
- AJ Dillon, Packers (paired with ACL pro Samantha Finley)
- Carrington Valentine, Packers (paired with ACL pro Quinn Reeves)
- Bijan Robinson, Falcons (paired with ACL pro Ryan Smith)
- Tyler Allgeier, Falcons (paired with ACL pro Jordan Power)
- Cor’Dale Flott, Giants (paired with ACL pro Terry Mathis)
- Jason Pinnock, Giants (paired with ACL pro Ethan Walker)
- Braxton Jones, Bears (paired with ACL pro Daymon Dennis)
- Tyrique Stevenson, Bears (paired with ACL pro Nico Mireles)
It will certainly be interesting to see how the tournament shakes out.
