Son of Green Bay Packers Great Charles Woodson “Blessed” To Have Michigan Offer for Class of ’27

From 2006 to 2012, the Green Bay Packers enjoyed seven years of Charles Woodson‘s Hall of Fame career as a safety. A member of the 2011 Super Bowl squad, Woodson peaked as a Packer, recording 37 interceptions and nine defensive scores in his first six seasons in Green Bay. He is tied for 5th all-time with 65 career picks.

Turns out his son is a talented safety too. Ahead of his junior season at Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida, Woodson Jr. has received offers from a number of elite college programs. Per ESPN’s Eli Lederman, Florida State, Iowa State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Syracuse and Texas A&M have all sent him offer letters. Wednesday, news broke that Woodson Sr.’s alma mater, the University of Michigan, had also entered the running for his son’s services. Both expressed gratitude on social media as Woodson Jr. shared the announcement.

Before Becoming Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer, Woodson Sr. Left Historic Michigan Legacy

Woodson Jr. tweeted the following yesterday evening:

    Blessed to receive an offer from Michigan!!!! @CoachLMorgan @UMichFootball @CharlesWoodson @SWiltfong_ @JohnGarcia_Jr @LNLionsFootball pic.twitter.com/R0bOeKhwNB

    — Charles Woodson Jr (@2Charleswoodson) June 4, 2025

Shortly after, his father retweeted the post with a GIF of a man crying and the caption “Goblue forever,” followed by a blue heart.

Woodson had quite the career as a Wolverine before being drafted no. 4 overall by the Oakland Raiders in 1998. Also a receiver and punt returner, the stellar safety led the Big Ten with seven interceptions in his third and final season at Michigan, adding 11 catches for 231 yards (two touchdowns). He accrued 283 yards on punt returns, including an end zone scamper.

Woodson won the 1997 Heisman Trophy primarily for his prowess on the defensive end. 27 years later, he remains the only defender to do so.

Setting the bar at a historic Heisman award and election to the Hall of Fame would be asking too much of the younger Woodson, but wherever he takes his college career, at least a few Packers fans will be rooting for him to succeed.

Michigan Fans Flock to Congratulate Woodson Jr.

In the comment section of Woodson Jr.’s post, Michigan M’s abounded, accompanied by GIFs of the Maize and Blue flag. A majority of the congratulations referenced his dad’s ties to the program.

Here’s a sample of Wolverine fans’ jubilant (and perhaps cajoling) remarks.

    “Sheesh. Cook goat jr.”

    “Legendary 🥲. Go Blue.”

“Keep it in the family young man. Go Blue!”

“Congrats!!! May you make the best choice for you and I hope that’s the maize and blue!! #Legend.”

    “Gotta come home.”

    “Mandatory.”

Of course, as there always is wherever a Michigan flag waves, a few butthurt Ohio State fans were lurking. A user by the name of Buckeye Irrationalist trolled, “Buckeye Lock 🔒.” Unfortunately, without an offer sheet, it is unlikely Ohio State will be competing for Woodson.

If he does choose Michigan, he will have plenty of time to experience the Big Ten’s strongest rivalry first hand – just like his dad did. If Woodson follows his father’s footsteps at even a tiptoe, a great football career awaits. For now, the family is just basking in a litany of offers. One thing Woodson Jr. will have that his father did not: a plump NIL package wherever he signs.
