The Green Bay Packers have one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the entire NFL. Earlier in the offseason, there was a suggestion that Green Bay should acquire wide receiver CeeDee Lamb from the Dallas Cowboys.
Well, it appears as if it is resurfacing once again. Maurice Morton of Bleacher Report suggested several trades for the Cowboys’ talented wide receiver. One of the teams he suggests that he should be traded to is Green Bay. Morton thinks the Green Bay Packers should trade Christian Watson, a 2025 first-round pick, and a 2025 third-round pick for Lamb.
Morton said:
“In 2023, Jordan Love showed that he’s a franchise quarterback. The Green Bay Packers passing offense finished 12th in yards with the third-most touchdowns.
The Packers’ aerial attack made leaps and bounds with a first-year starting quarterback while wideout Christian Watson battled through injuries that cost him eight games.
Of course, Green Bay’s offense can be more explosive with Watson healthy, and he has shown star potential, but the unit doesn’t need him to go up and down the field against opponents. We saw evidence of that last season.
The Packers have a young wide receiver unit that also includes Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, all of whom played notable roles in the team’s 12th-ranked aerial attack last year. They also have a couple of solid pass-catching tight ends, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft.
In exchange for Watson, a 25-year-old high-upside wideout, the Packers would get a bonafide No. 1 receiver as the rest of their young pass-catching group continues to grow into its own. They have $22.4 million in cap space this year, and $16.4 million for 2025, though the front office can restructure contracts to free up space if necessary.
The Cowboys may not love the idea of trading Lamb to the team that throttled them in the 2023 NFC Wild Card Round, but if they struggle to reach a new contract agreement with him, Dallas may see this offer as the best proposal in a resolution.”
Lamb is entering the final year of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys. He is 25 years old and was the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. It is honestly shocking that Dallas has not given him a contract extension by now.
Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb Has Yet To Ask For a Trade and the Green Bay Packers Should Not Make Any Trades For Now
For now, the star wide receiver has yet to ask for a trade and everything could change between now and before the start of the 2024 season. The Dallas Cowboys will need him to show up at some point. Last season with Dallas, he caught 135 passes for 1,749 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns, along with averaging 13.0 yards per catch. Lamb was targeted 181 times.
Even if he were to ask for a trade, the Green Bay Packers should not make a move for him. They just paid quarterback Jordan Love and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to contract extensions. Green Bay would not probably want to sign another player to another long-term deal right now anyway.
Lamb would no doubt become the top wide receiver in the Green Bay Packers offense, but this is a very deep receiving room that should not be touched right now. Christian Watson last season for Green Bay caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 15.1 yards per catch. He was targeted 53 times last season.
Yes, Watson was hurt for half of the season but the Packers have hope he will still turn it around. If Green Bay were to trade for Lamb, would that take targets away from players like Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Romeo Doubs? Quarterback Jordan Love loves spreading the wealth to his wide receivers and not having tunnel vision. This is why they shouldn’t go after CeeDee Lamb in a potential trade.
