The Green Bay Packers lost a tough one to the Atlanta Falcons in Week Two. After leading 24-12 going into the fourth quarter, the Falcons scored 13 unanswered points to steal a 25-24 victory. While the Packers’ defense has come under much scrutiny for the loss, the offense went three and out multiple times in the fourth quarter.
Obviously, not having David Bakhtiari, Christian Watson, or Aaron Jones impacted Green Bay’s ability on offense at times. AJ Dillon is averaging just 2.6 yards per carry so far this season, and it is undetermined how long Aaron Jones will be sidelined with his hamstring injury. Watson missed multiple games last year due to that type of injury and is missing more games this season. That could lead to the Packers unexpectedly targeting a Super Bowl Champion running back.
The Green Bay Packers Could Target Los Angeles Rams Running Back Cam Akers
There seems to be an end to Cam Akers’ time in Los Angeles. In a report by Jay Glazer, the Los Angeles Rams have deactivated Akers for their game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
The move is not due to an injury, according to Glazer, but rather to a coach’s decision. In the Rams’ Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Akers had 22 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.
The team spent several weeks without Akers prior to the 2022 trade deadline after he requested a trade. He eventually did return to the Rams and accounted for 786 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
Akers was the 52nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has averaged 4.0 yards per carry so far in his career and could certainly flourish in a new setting. That is where the Packers can come in.
The Green Bay Packers were one of the few teams “in” on a possible Jonathan Taylor trade. With Aaron Jones being in the last year of his contract and AJ Dillon’s future with the team unclear, Akers could be a good option.
Accounting for only 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground over his four years in the league. The Rams likely won’t get back the second-round draft pick they spent on him in 2020. It is likely a team would offer a fourth to sixth-round draft pick. That is something the Packers could certainly afford.
