There is not one bigger concern at the moment for the Green Bay Packers than the health of star quarterback Jordan Love, who suffered a knee injury late in Week 1’s showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
Love’s injury has left ESPN with a painful summation of the Packers’ Week 1, as the quarterback’s ordeal reminded everyone of Green Bay’s trip to London in 2022 when Aaron Rodgers also went down with an injury.
Describe the game in two words: International injury.
The Packers have played two games as part of the NFL’s international series, and both times left that country with an injured quarterback. Two years ago, Aaron Rodgers sustained a broken thumb on the final play of the Packers’ Week 5 loss to the Giants in London, and it impacted him for much of the rest of the season. After playing two international games over three seasons, the Packers probably hope they stay stateside for the next several years.
Green Bay Packers’ short-term outlook without Jordan Love
For what it’s worth, the Packers are reportedly not planning to put Love on the injured list, so there’s a chance that he could return to action faster than most people thought initially. Against the Packers, Love, who just signed a four-year, $220 million extension deal with Green Bay last July, passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 17/34 completions.
The Packers are back home now, with a game against the Indianapolis Colts coming up this Sunday at Lambeau Field. But it’s going to be Malik Willis calling the plays on the field on offense for Green Bay, which never went 0-2 during the team’s Aaron Rodgers era.
