The Green Bay Packers are going to be without the services of wide receiver Christian Watson for most, if not all, of the 2025 NFL season. Of course, this is due to the torn ACL he suffered in Green Bay’s Week 18 loss against the Chicago Bears at the end of the regular season.
Additionally, the Packers saw their other top three wide receivers, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks, struggle with dropped passes this season. Each of them had drop percentages between 10 and 12%, leading many to believe that it is time for the Packers to go out and get a bonified number one wide receiver to help improve the passing game.
And one of those people calling for such a transaction is current Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Made Waves with His Wide Receiver Comments

During the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Jacobs was a guest on several national podcasts and shows. During one of his interviews, he stated, “I think we need a guy that’s proven to be a wide receiver one already.”
This statement stirred the Packers fanbase, who immediately began fantasizing about the top-tier wide receivers Green Bay could acquire this offseason. Names like Tee Higgins, Davante Adams, and Cooper Kupp were thrown around, though the odds of the Packers acquiring any of them do not seem great.
Higgins is going to be franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals, so he will not even hit the market. Both Adams and Kupp are still under contract with their respective teams, and may be looking to play elsewhere anyway in the event that they are released.
Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst Addressed the Josh Jacobs Comment About Getting a #1 Wide Receiver

Speaking to reporters ahead of the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis, Gutekunst responded to a question about Jacobs’ wide receiver comments by saying:
“I think Josh (Jacobs) wants to win in the worst way. His expression of that is his desire to win. Certainly, I think we have a bunch of guys in that room that are capable, and we’re excited to see where they go next year.”
In other words, he would not say, one way or another, whether he is going to try to get a number one wide receiver in Green Bay for 2025. What he did say, though, is that they are going to continue to rely on the players that they have continuing to improve.
As usual, Packers fans will have to wait and see what he does in the NFL Draft. That will determine what he does in free agency.
