Romeo Doubs and Christian Watsons’ status for the Green Bay Packers’ 2025 season is hanging, leaving questions who will be the team’s WR1.
With their wildcard round exit, some fans are even suggesting names – like former Packer Davante Adams – as a trade target to improve that department of the team.
General manager Brian Gutekunst does not see that as an urgent problem for his team. When he was asked who will be their go-to receiver, he said it can be anybody in their current line-up.
“I think we have some of those guys, and I think we don’t have just one,” he said.
“I think historically if you look at a lot of the teams, very rarely do teams that have one receiver that’s super heavy with targets, that doesn’t usually play out well for playoffs and success there.”
Gutekunst’s statement echoes that of head coach Matt LaFleur’s back in August last year.
“I want to vomit every time I hear ‘No. 1 receiver,’ to be honest with you,” he told reporters.
“It drives me crazy. That’s something that you guys talk about. I feel like we’ve got a bunch of ’em.”
Green Bay Packers wide receiver situation
There are nine wide receivers in the Green Bay line-up by the end of the 2024-2025 season.
Romeo Doubs, who got injured against the Eagles, is entering his contract year. Meanwhile, Christian Watson’s time with the team might be headed to an unceremonious ending. That is if he fails to play in the 2025 season which is also his contract year.
Other WR still in the line-up is Jayden Reed who will be with the team until 2026, second stringers Bo Melton (who barely played last season), Dontayvion Wicks, and Malik Heath.
Right now, lots of names are being attached to the Packers. First of them is Davante Adams who expressed willingness to rejoin his former team although insisted his priority is the New York Jets.
Tyreek Hill was also amongst fans’ favorite to sign with him set to enter free agency.
