The Green Bay Packers will be moving forward with Jordan Love as their starting quarterback… at least for 2023. A key decision that the Green Bay Packers had to make was regarding Jordan Love and his fifth-year option. It has been previously reported that the fifth-year option was a done deal, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Green Bay Packers Have Not Yet Made A Decision On Jordan Love’s Fifth-Year Option

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
Brian Gutekunst says they’ve had preliminary discussions about Jordan Love’s fifth-year option, but Packers haven’t yet exercised it. Deadline to do so is Tuesday.
“It’s a lot of money for a guy who hasn’t played, but at the same time we’re moving forward with him.”
In late March it was reported that the Green Bay Packers were expected to pick up Love’s fifth-year option. According to Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus:
This is a weird one to predict, as one would imagine if the Green Bay Packers are comfortable trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, they’re also very comfortable with Love being their starter going forward. A $20.272 million fully guaranteed fifth-year option is not a huge expenditure to put on your future books for a franchise quarterback, but it could be a bit scary given his lack of NFL reps.
Additionally, Green Bay picked up the fully guaranteed $7.9 million fifth-year option on safety Darnell Savage last offseason and is now regretting that heading into 2023 after he was benched for stretches of the 2022 campaign.
Tuesday (May 2nd, 2023) is the deadline for the Packers to exercise this option. If they don’t, they will head into the 2024 off-season with Jordan Love as a pending un-restricted free agent. Based on his play, the Packers could certainly try to lock him up long-term mid way through the 2023 season, however, if he doesn’t perform to their liking, they may be interested in taking a QB in the 2024 draft instead (which is predicted to be loaded with quarterback talent).
