On Monday, it was reported that the Green Bay Packers had re-signed linebacker Isaiah McDuffie to a two-year $8 million contract. This signing was expected as McDuffie has been one of Green Bay’s most reliable players over the last two seasons. What is more, he played for Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley at Boston College.

But on Tuesday, the Packers announced another re-signing, one that had been arguably their top priority of the offseason: kicker Brandon McManus.

Earlier today, it was reported that McManus and the Packers reached an agreement on a three-year $15.3 million contract, which includes a $5 million signing bonus:

After signing with the Packers following Week Seven, McManus made 20 of his 21 field goal attempts (95.2%, the second-best mark in the NFL) and all 30 of his extra point attempts.

For the first time since 2022, Green Bay had a kicker they could rely upon in any situation, and they were not too keen on letting him walk out the door.

Following the 2022 NFL season, the Packers decided to move on from franchise leading scorer Mason Crosby. To replace him, Green Bay selected Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. It was a very unpopular decision at the time, and one that fans were proven right about as the season progressed.

In his only season with the Packers, Carlson made 81.8% of his field goals, but just 87.2% of his extra points. So inconsistent was he that Green Bay brought in Greg Joseph to compete with Carlson in training camp. However, both kickers performed so poorly that the Packers decided to go with Brayden Narveson, whom they claimed off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans.

But Narveson was not who they thought he was. While he made all of his extra point attempts, he made just 70% of his field goal tries, the lowest mark in the NFL at the time. After a dismal Week Seven performance, the Packers signed McManus.

And now he will be around for a while.
