The Green Bay Packers have not been afraid to commit to some massive signings over the last few years. Kenny Clark, Jaire Alexander, Aaron Jones, David Bakhtiari, and Elgton Jenkins are all getting paid near top of the market money for their respective positions. While they don’t often sign any big name free agents, they sure consistent with signing their own players.
Today, however, it was one of their biggest rivals who decided to sign a player they just acquired to a massive contract.
Green Bay Packers Rival Signs DE Montez Sweat To Huge Contract Extension
A trade deadline win has just been secured by the Chicago Bears.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Chicago and defensive end Montez Sweat have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension that includes $98 million in new money and $72.9 million in guaranteed money. A total of $105 million is involved in the deal, according to Rapoport.
As per Over the Cap, Sweat’s new average salary of $24.5 million per year leapfrogged Rashan Gary into fifth place among edge rushers.
After five solid seasons in Washington, he becomes a valuable building block for Chicago.
In 67 starts for the Commanders, Sweat recorded 35.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, 47 tackles for loss, and 85 quarterback hits. Both Sweat and his teammate Chase Young were let go by Washington during their contract years, despite their sucess.
