Malik Willis is hopeful that his move to the Green Bay Packers would provide him with a fostering environment that would help him improve his craft and help him compete for a starting job elsewhere.
Malik Willis is part of a weak QB class, and his performance during his short stint with the Tennessee Titans proves the point of many NFL fans about the 2022 QB crop. His squandered opportunities cost him his job, but he should be more than thankful that a team aiming to make the Super Bowl found value in him as a backup.
The road ahead of his goal to start for an NFL team is thorny. The Titans gave him plenty of opportunities to prove his worth, but he failed to meet the organization’s expectations. While expectations at the Packers are considerably lower, the onus is still on him to prove his doubters wrong and create a long NFL career for himself.
One analyst thinks there’s potential for Willis to thrive in Green Bay, but there are conditions that he must meet.
Analyst thinks Malik Willis will have a challenge securing his position with the Green Bay Packers
Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Company wrote about what fans can expect out of the new faces in the Green Bay Packers locker room.
While he gave glowing reviews to the team’s young guns, he predicted a tough task ahead for Willis:
If you haven’t heard by now, the Packers have a new backup quarterback. The only question is whether Malik Willis, a former third-round pick, is going to be ready to play in Week 1. The coaching staff has sent mixed messages on this subject, depending on who was asked. If Willis can’t go in Week 1, it shouldn’t take him long to acclimate, considering the team thought enough of him to waive both of their rookie contract quarterbacks and give the Tennessee Titans a draft pick for him. Sean Clifford re-signed with Green Bay’s practice squad, so he’s an early season option to back up Jordan Love.
It’s not hard to see why Mosqueda is doubtful Willis can keep his post at Lambeau Field. In the 11 games he played for the Titans, he only managed to get 350 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and three picks. To make things worse, he has an abysmal 31.3% pass completion rate.
If Willis doesn’t show enough improvement in the coming weeks, he will enter Week 7 without a spot in the NFL.
