Unfortunately, it looks like the COVID issues that we saw affect the Green Bay roster last week are continuing. The Packers announced earlier today that safety Darnell Savage, tackle Dennis Kelly, and KR/PR David Moore were added to the Reserve/Covid list. The NFL’s current COVID guidelines allow vaccinated, asymptomatic players to return quickly. Thus, Savage, Kelly, and Moore still have a chance to play.
Luckily, this news comes after the Packers clinched the #1 seed in the NFC. With Sunday’s game against the Lions meaningless, some of these players may have been rested by the team anyway. The main concern now is getting these players back in time for the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.
Savage has been the team’s primary starter at safety alongside Adrian Amos for most of the season. Dennis Kelly has filled in admirably at right tackle with Billy Turner injured. David Moore, currently on the practice squad, was signed by Green Bay last week. He provided the Packers return game with an immediate boost in their victory over the Vikings.
It will be interesting to see how Green Bay adjusts if these players can’t return before Sunday. Is Henry Black next in line at the safety spot? Could we see Yosh Njiman slide over to RT if Bakhtiari fulfills the hopes of the coaching staff and returns at LT? Will Amari Rodgers get another chance at returning punts and kicks?
