BREAKING: Green Bay Packers Gave Aaron Rodgers Permission To Speak With One Team Regarding Trade

The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers may actually be heading toward a trade.  While many thought it was a possibility this off-season, it still seemed unlikely that any team would trade for Rodgers given the asking price and massive cap hit.  However, the trade rumors that have been swirling all off-season have turned up a notch on Monday night.  The Green Bay Packers officially gave Aaron Rodgers permission to speak to one AFC team regarding a trade.

The New York Jets, who have consistently been connected to Rodgers as the number one landing spot for the four-time MVP, had conversations with him on Monday.  According to ESPN’s Trey Wingo, nothing is imminent — however, Rodgers is open to the idea of potentially leading their team.

Per sources. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets had conversations today. While nothing is imminent Rodgers is open to the idea of going to NY

Since Aaron Rodgers is still under contract with the Packers, he needed to be granted permission to avoid tampering.  The fact that the Packers allowed Rodgers to speak to Jets indicates the Packers are open to the four-time MVP feeling out where he might want to play next.

The New York Jets are ran by owner Woody Johnson and general manager Joe Douglas.  Both have been open to the idea of acquiring Aaron Rodgers this off-season.  New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson has stated in the past he would give up “Multiple Firsts” or Aaron Rodgers

    Per Dov Kleiman:
The Packers will want at least two 1st round picks in a trade for QB Aaron Rodgers, Peter King shares in his column. King adds that Jets owner Woody Johnson would happily pay that price. The question remains if Rodgers even wants to play for NY.
This is also extremely strong indication that the Green Bay Packers are ready to move forward with Jordan Love.  Their former first-round pick is heading into the fourth season of his career and has just a single start under his belt.  He entered a Nov. 27 game against the Philadelphia Eagles in relief of Rodgers and played the entirety of the fourth quarter, completing six of his nine pass attempts for 113 yards and a touchdown.
