The Green Bay Packers have not yet worked out a trade with the New York Jets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The month of April sees the 2023 NFL Draft occurring, meaning that a trade will have to get done soon. That being said, there are several other trades that the Packers can make even on draft day that will help improve the team in 2023.
The Green Bay Packers Trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets for Several Draft Picks
If the Packers and Jets wait until the first day of the NFL Draft to work out a trade, it could go very well for Green Bay. New York has already publicly committed to trading for Rodgers and have stated that Zach Wilson will be their backup quarterback. Additionally, they signed former Rodgers backup Tim Boyle to their roster. If the two teams get to draft day without a deal in place, do not be surprised if they finalize one after the clock starts ticking.
There have been dozens of trade proposals offered by NFL analysts and fans. However, I think that this one would make the most sense:
Jets Get:
- Aaron Rodgers
- 2023 third round pick
- Conditional 2024 third round pick (Jet receive if Rodgers does not play in 2024)
Packers Get:
- Two 2023 second round picks (42 and 43 overall)
- Conditional 2025 second round pick (Packers get if Rodgers plays in 2024; becomes a first if Jets go to the Super Bowl)
Why This Aaron Rodgers Trade Between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets Would Work

The Jets have made it clear that their first round pick (13th overall) is off limits for any potential trade. That is fair. However, two second round picks for a four-time MVP who can still play at a high level seems to be more than adequate compensation. So why include the extra picks?
If the Jets agree to trade their two second round picks, they will not pick again in the draft until the fourth round. Nearly 100 players will go to other teams before their next selection. Sending them a third round pick will alleviate that concern.
The conditional picks speak for themselves. Each team gets some protection from Rodgers’ inability to fully commit to his contract. As far as no other draft compensation coming to Green Bay, the fact of the matter is that the Jets only have six draft picks to begin with.
A note about the third round picks: it’s not like the Packers pick well in the third round anyway.
If anything, this trade benefits the Jets more than it does the Packers, but at this point, getting the deal done and two more picks in the top 50 should be more than enough to get it done. Green Bay has a plethora of needs on both sides of the ball and these two extra picks would be worth pulling the trigger.
