Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Current QB Jordan Love Each Striving for Historical Achievements in Week 8

After months of waiting, Green Bay Packers fans and Pittsburgh Steelers fans got the news that many around the NFL expected would happen at some point: Aaron Rodgers has committed to the 2025 season. On Thursday, it was reported that Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, informed the Steelers that he will sign a one-year contract with their team and show up for mandatory minicamp next week.

Over the past several weeks, the NFL world has been waiting [impatiently] for the former Packers quarterback to make a decision. The reason for his delay, per him, is that several people in his life are battling cancer and he was devoting his time and attention to them.

But now the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback is ready to set his sights on the 2025 season, one that will see him pitted against both of his former teams.

Aaron Rodgers Will Face both the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets

Rodgers, of course, has spent the last two seasons playing for the New York Jets, who acquired the four-time MVP from Green Bay ahead of the 2023 NFL season. However, the former Packers quarterback tore his Achilles four snaps into his first season in New York, ending his year.

In his second season, the Jets went just 5-12 and Rodgers was a frequent source of frustration among Jets media members and fans. After the organization hired a new general manager and head coach, he was informed that the team was going to go in a different direction at the quarterback position and was released with a post-June 1 designation.

Now that he is committed to the Steelers, Rodgers will have the opportunity to play both of his former teams. Pittsburgh plays New York in Week One, which will also be an interesting matchup because Justin Fields, who was on the Steelers roster last year, replaced Rodgers on the Jets.

He also will face the Packers for the first time when Green Bay travels to Pittsburgh in Week Eight.

Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love Will Both Be Looking to Make History in Week 8

When Rodgers takes the field for Pittsburgh in Week Eight, he will have the opportunity to do something that just four quarterbacks in league history have done: get a win against every single NFL team. Only Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Brett Favre have accomplished the feat.

But while Rodgers is looking to match four other greats, Jordan Love will be trying to do something that neither Rodgers nor Favre were able to accomplish as Packers quarterbacks: win in Pittsburgh.

Of course, Rodgers defeated the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, but the fact remains that Green Bay has not won on the road in Pittsburgh since 1970, when Bart Starr was the team’s starting quarterback.

Indeed, Week Eight is going to be a very intriguing game.
