Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers turned back the clock in the New York Jets final game of the 2024 NFL regular season, a 32-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 274 yards, four touchdown passes, and one interception, giving him a passer rating of 112.5 for the game. His first touchdown pass to Jets tight end Tyler Conklin was the 500th of his career, making him the fifth quarterback in NFL history to reach that milestone.
His final touchdown pass, a six-yarder to running back Breece Hall, was his 503rd. After the play, he took the ball and gave it to a team staffer.
Just in case it was his last.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Does Not Know If He Will Be Back with the New York Jets, or At All
Despite the win, which “improved” New York’s record to 5-12 this season, Rodgers and the Jets have had a season to forget. After started the year 2-3, New York fired head coach Robert Saleh, who has since joined the Packers and Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff. A few weeks later, they fired general manager Joe Douglas, who orchestrated the trade for Rodgers in the first place.
The four-time NFL MVP, despite playing the best game of his season on Sunday, did not have a great year either. He finishes 2024 with a 63.0% completion percentage, 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.
Needless to say, there has been a great deal of finger-pointing within the Jets organization. Rodgers has received his fair share of the blame for New York’s struggles, especially since it seemed as if many of the roster moves that made over the last two years were made with him in mind or by his suggestion.
Apparently team owner Woody Johnson wanted Rodgers benched back in Week Four, a report that has not been confirmed by the team. Regardless, it appears that the relationship between the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Johnson is broken beyond repair and the Jets are believed to be ready to move on from Rodgers now that the season is over.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Says He Would Play for Another NFL Team
To be clear: Rodgers has not stated one way or another, at least to the media, whether or not he wants to play in the NFL at all in 2025. As has been the case for the past several seasons, retirement is certainly on the table for him.
Based on how the season has gone and comments made, both publicly and privately, it is fair to assume that Rodgers will not return to New York next season, despite the fact that he said that his preference would be to play for the Jets, if he plays at all.
After the game yesterday, Rodgers was asked if he would consider playing for a different NFL team if New York decided to move from him and he decided not to retire.

“The answer is yes,” Rodgers said after saying that there are two hypotheticals involved in that scenario: if the Jets choose to move on and if he wants to continue to play.
In other words, Rodgers will not let New York determine his NFL future. If he wants to retire, he will. If he wants to keep playing, he will, even if the Jets do not want him.
