The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers are at something of a crossroads. While the team awaits Rodgers to make a decision on whether or not he wants to play in 2023, both sides seem to know one thing: the end of their relationship is near. Of course, fans and analysts really have no way of knowing when that end might come. It could be this offseason, it could be next year, or even the year after that. The fact of the matter is that Rodgers has more days behind him in Green Bay than he has in front of them and the Packers have a young quarterback in Jordan Love in whom they have a great deal of confidence.
A breakup is coming, and it could be coming soon. This led ESPN’s Jeff Darlington to make a very interesting real-world comparison regarding the situation.
The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers Are Worried about Perception
Jeff Darlington posted the following on Twitter:
This situation between Rodgers and the Packers, both publicly and privately, is feeling more like two sides trying to navigate the perceptions of a breakup rather than two sides trying to find a way to continue forward together. Very interesting two weeks ahead.

Now to be clear, this is, as he states, a “feeling.” As mentioned previously, there isn’t one person outside of the Packers front office or Aaron Rodgers himself that can give a 100% detailed report of what is currently being discussed between the two parties. That being said, Darlington does bring up an interesting point. The Packers and Rodgers do both seem to be very concerned with how they are perceived.
Can Anyone Really Blame Them?

Many fans still remember when the Packers made the decision to move on from Brett Favre. It was messy. Ted Thompson got death threats. Aaron Rodgers was booed by the fans that now cheer him. While the transition led to a decade and a half of high-level football (more or less), the period of that transition did not do wonders for the perception of the organization.
Now, a lot of that had to do with Favre retiring and then changing his mind. To be certain, a great deal of the blame for how that went down lies on him. And if there is one thing Rodgers does not want to be, it is another Favre.
It is true that the Packers and Rodgers have clashed in the past. However, it is safe to say that they have put those differences to rest, even if the fanbase has not. There is a mutual level of respect among both parties for each other. When the time does come for an amicable split, and that time is coming (maybe even soon), both want the other to come out of it looking clean in the eyes of their fans.
It that really possible, though?
