Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not be returning to the New York Jets in 2025. As was the case in 2023 when Green Bay decided it was time for Jordan Love to take over the offense, the decision on whether or not he was going to return to a team was not left up to the four-time NFL MVP. Not one to let others determine his future, Rodgers decided against retiring as it would not be on his terms.
Of course, his decision to keep playing led to his trade to the Jets, a transaction that the Packers drew great amounts of criticism for making. As it turns out, though, they made the right decision.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Had a Forgettable Tenure with the New York JetsNew York Giants

After much offseason hype, Rodgers tore his Achilles four snaps into the 2023 NFL season, ending his year. In his absence, the Jets went 7-10, but were hopeful that his return in 2024 would bring the postseason aspirations they had when the trade went down.
Of course, that did not happen.
Instead, Rodgers led New York to a 5-12 record during a season that saw the organization fire both their head coach and general manager. Throughout the 2024 season, there were rumors of discontent between the organization and Rodgers, mainly on the side of the franchise.
When the season ended, Rodgers reiterated that if he decided to play in 2025, he wanted it to be with the Jets. However, New York’s new leadership informed him that they were going to go in a different direction at the quarterback position.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Has Apparently Reached Out to the New York Giants

Of course, Rodgers could retire this offseason and call it a career. However, he does not want his future determined by a team not wanting him. Unfortunately for him, there do not seem to be many teams interested.
Recent rumors have had the future Pro Football Hall of Famer linked to the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers, but a new rumor published by Mike Florio would seem to indicate that Rodgers is willing to play for just about anyone, even the lowly New York Giants:
“He might be having trouble finding a good team that wants him. There was talk at the Combine on Tuesday that Rodgers has reached out to the Giants.
“Usually, we don’t traffic in things we’ve heard. Because we hear plenty of things that might or might not be true. The way I heard this specific thing, however, leads me to believe it’s more likely than not true.”
This would surely be an interesting development as Rodgers has reportedly stated that he wants to play for a team that wants him and is, well, “good.”
The Giants were 3-14 last year.
If this rumor is true, it would seem to indicate that Rodgers is not generating the buzz around the NFL that he was in 2023 when Green Bay was shopping him.
