To say that Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre have a complicated relationship is an understatement. The two Green Bay Packers legends didn’t have the best connection since Rodgers was brought to the team to replace an aging Favre, and their fractured link is the biggest reason behind Rodgers’ attempts to foster a strong bond with Jordan Love.
However, Rodgers isn’t one to let his poor relationship with the Hall of Famer get in the way of reaching out during his most vulnerable moments. When the former QB announced that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, the current New York Jets signal caller gave his support to his former teammate.
Aaron Rodgers expresses his support to Brett Favre after his Parkinson’s diagnosis
The one-time Super Bowl winner expressed his support to his former teammate on Wednesday after he and the rest of the league learned about his status.
“The older you get, and some of you know this, but mortality kind of gets thrown in our face a little bit more,” Rodgers said, via the New York Post. “It’s actually, unfortunately, more normal to hear about a death or a cancer diagnosis or a diagnosis like this. It doesn’t desensitize it for me.
“I mean, I feel bad for him, and [wife] Deanna. It’s unfortunately part of our game. That’s part of the risk of playing in the league, and we all in the back of our minds know that could be a reality at some point. We hope medicine at some point can catch up and either make the symptoms easier or eradicate some of these issues that we have.”
It’s nice to see Rodgers share his personal thoughts on his former teammate. While it remains to be seen if he reached out to the Favres, Packers fans would be touched to see their former star show his humanity at this moment
Looking back at Favre’s stint with the Green Bay Packers
Favre was a fixture at Lambeau Field, playing 16 seasons wearing Packer green. During his time there, he threw for 61,655 yards and 286 touchdowns. He’s a one-time Super Bowl winner, three-time All-Pro, and two-time MVP.
Rodgers and the rest of the Packer nation join the world in praying for Brett Favre and his family as they take on this long battle.
