The Green Bay Packers enter the 2024 season with A.J. Dillon on injured reserve. He will miss the entire season because of a neck injury. Dillon re-signed with Green Bay on a one-year deal in the offseason.
Entering training camp, he was listed as the second running back on the Green Bay Packers depth chart behind Josh Jacobs. Rookie Marshawn Lloyd or Emanuel Wilson will assume Dillon’s backup running back duties this season.
Dairylandexpress.com Writer Brian Sampsons Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Should Sign Kareem Hunt To Take A.J. Dillon’s Place
Outside of Josh Jacobs, there is a lot of unknown at the running back position with the Green Bay Packers this season. Emanuel Wilson had another good preseason, but we will see how he does against first-string players. As for Marshawn Lloyd, it remains to be seen if he will be ready for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dairylandexpress.com writer Brian Sampson thinks that there are five running backs that the Green Bay Packers should consider signing. One of the running backs he thinks that they should go after with the A.J. Dillon injury is former Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt. Sampson said:
“Kareem Hunt is the biggest name on this list, but temper your expectations.
After being drafted in the third round in 2017, Hunt exploded onto the scene with a Pro Bowl-worthy rookie campaign, rushing for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns with the Kansas City Chiefs. It seemed like the sky was the limit, but a myriad of issues—both on and off the field—prevented him from replicating that early success.
Hunt has remained a free agent throughout the offseason, with no training camp stint to his name. His absence from the field has been conspicuous, and it raises questions about what he has left to offer. For the Packers, however, the timing might finally align. With a glaring need in the backfield, Green Bay could be the team to give Hunt another shot.
If Hunt is desperate enough for a chance to prove he still belongs in the NFL, he might take a short-term, limited role with the Packers. It’s a roll of the dice, but in a situation where Green Bay needs bodies more than anything, it’s a gamble that could pay off—or fizzle out just as quickly.”
It is rather interesting that the Cleveland Browns did not bring him back. They only have two running backs on the roster with Nick Chubb on the PUP list to start the 2024 season. Jerome Ford will be the primary back for the Browns to start the season.
Josh Jacobs and Kareem Hunt Would Be An Explosive 1-2 Punch
Josh Jacobs and Kareem Hunt would be a nice 1-2 punch for the Green Bay Packers backfield. However, they probably do not want to sign Hunt because they want rookie Marshawn Lloyd to get involved in the offense at some point.
Signing Kareem Hunt would only stunt his development. They should only sign Hunt if Lloyd continues to have injury issues.
