The Green Bay Packers finalized their 53-man roster on Tuesday and it had to be submitted to the league by 3 p.m. CT. Entering training camp, running back A.J. Dillon was the number two running back on the Packers depth chart.
Dillon re-signed with Green Bay on a one-year deal in the offseason after not signing elsewhere in free agency. He was competing with rookie Marshawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson for the second running back spot on the depth chart.
Green Bay Packers Running Back A.J. Dillon Was Placed On Season-Ending Injured Reserve on Tuesday
Dillon is dealing with a neck injury. On Tuesday, he was placed on injured reserve and is out for the 2024 season. This is a huge deal for him because there was a chance he was going to be the backup running back behind Josh Jacobs.
Dillon was a second-round pick by Green Bay out of Boston College in the 2020 NFL Draft. A.J. Dillon was the second running back on the roster a season ago behind Aaron Jones. Dillon during the 2023 season for the Packers rushed for 613 yards on 178 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 3.4 yards per carry.
He also caught 22 passes for 223 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 10.1 yards per reception. Dillon was targeted 28 times.
In four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, A.J. Dillon rushed for a total of 2,428 yards on 597 carries and 16 touchdowns. He was a serviceable running back for the Packers, but they now appear to turn the page after the Dillon injury news.
Josh Jacobs will be the starting running back. For now, Emanuel Wilson will probably be the second running back. The good news is that Marshawn Lloyd did not land on injured reserve.

Yup. Injury prone RBs almost always get cut or traded.

Should of keep Arron Jones

Interestingly, a fan said that the Green Bay Packers should have kept A.J. Dillon over Aaron Jones. When Josh Jacobs was signed, many thought that Jones would be the other running back with him and not Dillon. Well, the Packers released Jones the same day and later signed with the Minnesota Vikings. A.J. Dillon’s days with the Packers appear to be over.
