When the Green Bay Packers faced the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12, they were fortunate to play a team that was riddled with injuries. As Jordan Love and Keisean Nixon argued after the game, “It’s the NFL. It’s not an excuse,” as to why San Francisco did not play very well.
However, one player that was missing from the 49ers lineup was dealing with a much larger issue than his own physical pain.
Trent Williams’ Wife Gave Birth to a Stillborn Son the Day the 49ers Played the Green Bay Packers
All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams officially missed the game against the Packers due to an ankle injury. However, had he been healthy, he likely would not have played anyway.
On November 24, Williams’ wife gave birth to their son, Trent Jr.
Unfortunately, Trent Jr. was born stillborn. His twin sister passed away earlier in the pregnancy.
Williams recently posted on his Instagram:
“It’s been extremely hard to process the saddest Hello and Goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure. Last Sunday night, on 11/24/24; I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz 18.5 in long little body at 11:38pm. At only 35 weeks, your impactful and quick arrival didn’t even give mommy time to get an epidural. I’m so grateful to have had your Aunt Katrina (who also cut your cord) and Nurse Hannah by my side.
“My firstborn & only son, I’ve always wanted you. But God needed you more.”
There are so many things in life bigger than football. It is incredibly sad and unfortunate that Williams and his wife have to endure such a terrible, terrible tragedy.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan released the following statement regarding the loss of Trent Williams Jr.:
“When you’ve got to deal with tragedies like this, it’s hard as a coach, it’s hard as a friend, it’s hard as a family member, it’s hard for everybody,” Shanahan said. “But we spend a lot of time with each other and that’s what’s cool about a football team. Whatever you go through, the good or the bad, we go through it together.”
