The idea that the Green Bay Packers do not have a clear No. 1 wide receiver is a topic talked about ad nauseam across the NFL realm. That is also why many believe that the Packers will make a head-turning move in the NFL offseason to finally acquire someone capable of taking over the offense downfield as part of Jordan Love’s weaponry.
Enter Ben Solak of ESPN, who floated some proven wide receives as potential targets in the offseason by the Packers, who finished the 2024 NFL season ranked eighth in the league in scoring offense but just 30th in pass play percentage, 21st in pass completion rate and 14th in passing yards per outing.
According to Solak, it’s a good bet that the Packers will go after Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf over someone like New York Jets wideout Garrett Wilson.
Big prediction for the offseason: While I love the versatility of the Packers’ wide receiver room (when it is healthy), they could use a clear WR1 who can take over games with consistent eight-plus-target outings. Expect them to be in the Tee Higgins hunt, but if getting him gets too expensive for them, they could package someone like Romeo Doubs — who will be in the final year of his rookie deal in 2025 — to grab a frustrated star from another team. Garrett Wilson? DK Metcalf? I’d bet on the latter. — Solak
DK Metcalf could be a game-changer for the Green Bay Packers offense
Metcalf can easily be Love’s top target if the Packers pull off such a trade to bring in the hulking former Ole Miss Rebels star wideout. Although he is coming off a down year, the 27-year-old Metcalf could flourish in a new environment.
He had a career-low five touchdown receptions in 2024 to go with 992 receiving yards. So far in his NFL career, Metcalf has 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns on 438 receptions and 726 targets.
