The Green Bay Packers face the San Francisco 49ers, with an injury concern about quarterback Brock Purdy and his hurt shoulder. Now at 7-3 going into that highly important matchup, it means a lot to both their playoff aspirations,
After losing to San Francisco in the playoffs three of the last five seasons, Green Bay wouldn’t mind seeing the 49ers get left out of the postseason entirely. The Packers could damage the playoff hopes of San Francisco by beating the 49ers at Lambeau Field.
Here are three matchups to look for:
QB Jordan Love vs 49ers defense
Packers quarterback Jordan Love has thrown an interception in each of his first nine games. Love needs to get over his interception problems in this rematch of last year’s playoffs.
The San Francisco 49ers got a taste of what their defense looks like without defensive end Nick Bosa in the second half of a loss to Seattle. Let’s see how the 49ers defense holds up against the Packers.
TE Tucker Kraft vs George Kittle
Tight end Tucker Kraft of the Packers is creating more of his production after the catch. He leads qualifying tight ends with 9.8 yards after catch per reception.
49ers tight end George Kittle has seven touchdowns this season, his 2nd highest season total so far. He ranks 2nd in his position in receiving yards with 560.
RB Josh Jacobs vs 49ers run defense
Packers running back Josh Jacobs presently sits 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards with 838. No Packers RB ran for 1000+ scrimmage yards last year. Jacobs had already accomplished this in 10 games by having 1,024 scrimmage yards.
The 49ers rank 3rd in run defense in the 1st first quarter. They rank 22nd in the 2nd quarter, 25th in the 3rd quarter, and 28th in the 4th quarter. So, the run defense has started games strong but fallen off a cliff relatively early on.
