Many Green Bay Packers fans and media members believe the team is not in rebuild mode for the 2023 season. One new 2024 draft projection for the Packers seems to think this season will be a disaster for Jordan Love in his first season as a full-time starter.
The Green Bay Packers didn’t spend much money in free agency this offseason. They traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in April. The Packers’ best additions to a roster that missed the playoffs last season came via the 2023 NFL Draft. The team has plenty of talent on the offensive line and in the defensive secondary. But there are still plenty of questions about the roster this spring.
Green Bay Packers predicted to have a terrible season
Doug Farrar with Touchdown Wire recently came out with an early mock draft for 2024. Farrar predicts Rodgers plays 65% of his offensive snaps with the Jets. That’s the silver lining in a pretty bleak projection for the Packers’ 2023 season. He thinks the Packers use both of their first-round picks on the offense.
Farrar predicts the Packers will pick offensive tackle Joe Alt with the sixth overall draft pick. Alt would be an excellent replacement for David Bakhtiari, but grabbing him there means Love and the Packers failed miserably this season. The Packers were one game away from the Wild Card spot last season. Packers Twitter seems to think the Packers can stay around there this season as long as Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs make a leap this season and pass rushers Rashan Gary and Preston Smith can stay healthy.

Love is another factor in the Packers’ success. After all, the fourth-year quarterback will be the one tossing balls to Watson and Doubs and the rest of the youthful pass-catching squad in Green Bay. Farrar must not have much faith in Love after his “slow start” in OTAs this week. Farrar predicts the Packers will take Oregon quarterback Bo Nix with the overall 25th pick they received from the Jets for the Rodgers trade.
That would be the worst case scenario for the Packers
That prediction sounds like the worst-case scenario for the Packers this season. Drafting those two players next season at those picks would mean the Packers were for sure rebuilding next season. It seems improbable the Packers would be the sixth-worst team this season barring a major injury. This would seem more realistic if Love were injured, and if he were, one would think the Packers wouldn’t use the Rodgers pick to draft his true successor.
