Mike Gesicki has slowly turned into one of the better tight ends in the NFL, and is surely one of the most reliable. Playing in 53 of his first 54 games in the NFL is exactly what you want from a player at that position.
It will be very interesting to see how Green Bay attacks the tight end position this offseason. Robert Tonyan had a career year in 2020, racking up nearly 600 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, halfway through the 2021 season, he only had accumulated 204 yards and two touchdowns before he went down with his ACL tear.

Gesicki: PFF’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths:
– Speed/athleticism
– Ball skills/contested catches
– Hands
Weaknesses:
– Blocking
– Separating vs. single coverage
Gesicki doesn’t have the blocking chops to play in-line all that often, but he’s at his best using his athleticism to add value to the passing game all over the formation. The Packers will definitely be looking for another element to add to their passing game this season. The one thing they didn’t have for their post season run was a legitimate downfield threat at the tight end position after Tonyan went down. Green Bay can continue to utilize Marcedes Lewis in the blocking game too, as he’s vocalized he wants to come back to the Packers.

In Conclusion:
Mike Gesicki has shown off his spectacular catching abilities time and time again. This, coupled with his durability, makes him an ideal target for a team that is looking for a threat at TE. Green Bay meets that criteria this year, especially if Robert Tonyan does not return. Gesicki has already drawn interest from teams outside of Miami, namely the LA Chargers. If Green Bay is going to go after him, they’ll have to compete.
