No game this past weekend for the Packers. But that does not mean there is no Good Stat, Bad Stat for this week. We will look at some of the numbers from over 30 years of having a bye week in the NFL season.
Here are a few stats (good, bad, and some interesting) that helped define how well the Packers have played after the bye week.
Packers rank 14th in this ‘after the bye’ game stat
Good Stat: Since the bye week began in the NFL in the 1990 season, the Packers have won 19 and lost 14 the week after their bye week. That is a winning percentage of .576. That ranks 14th in the league. Denver ranks first with a 24-10 record (.706) with Baltimore close behind at 19-8 (.704). The worst team after the bye? Cincinnati… they are 10-23-1 (.309)
Interesting Stat: This bye week for the Packers, coming in Week #14 of the season, is the latest in the season for the Pack. Prior to this year’s bye week, the latest bye for Green Bay was in Week #12 last season.
Bad Stat: Green Bay has lost four of their last five games after the bye week. They won the game after the bye week last year at home against the Bears, but prior to that they lost to Tampa Bay (38-10 in 2020), San Francisco (37-8 in 2019), L.A. Rams (29-27 in 20118) and Detroit (30-17 in 2017).
The Pack has been tough to beat at home after the bye week
Good Stat: The Packers will face the Rams at home next Monday night (December 19) in the game after the bye this year. Green Bay has won 10 of their last 11 games after the bye that have been played at Lambeau Field.
Good Stat: The Packers are 11-2 in games after the bye week at home; they are 8-12 in games after the bye week in away games.
Bad Stat: When the bye week is Week #6 for the Packers, they are 1-5 the next game.
Green Bay likes their bye later in the season
Good Stat: The Packers seem to play better after the bye week when the bye week is later in the season. When their bye week is Week #8 through Week #12, the Packers are 10-3 in games after those bye weeks. When the bye week is Week #3 through Week #7, the Packers are 9-11 in the games after those bye weeks.
