The Green Bay Packers won their fifth game of the 2022 season with a 28-19 win over the Bears in Chicago.
Here are a few stats (good, bad, and some interesting) that helped define that contest.
No sacks allowed, no turnovers for the Pack
Good Stat: The Packers did not allow a sack and did not have a turnover in the game. It was the first time that has happened this season. Since 1977, Green Bay is 26-1 when they did not allow a sack or commit a turnover in a game.
Bad Stat: For the seventh time in 13 games this season, the Pack did not score in the first quarter.
Good Stat: Jaire Alexander had an interception in the game, the fourth this season, a career high. Of his nine career interceptions, three have come against the Bears.
Bad Stat: The Packers “D” allowed 409 total yards yesterday. That was the fourth straight game where they allowed 400+ total yards.
Good Stat: In their last four games, the Packers have outscored the opposition 42-13 in the fourth quarter. They outscored the Bears 18-0 in the fourth quarter yesterday, the first time they scored 18 or more points and shutout their opponents in the fourth quarter since 2007 when they outscored the New York Giants 21-0 in the fourth quarter of a 35-13 win.
Interesting Stat: The 28-19 win over the Bears was the first time Green Bay beat Chicago by that score in the 206-game history of the series. It was the second time the Packers have won a game 28-19 in their history. They beat New Orleans 28-19 on September 9, 1979.
Big game for AJ Dillon
Good Stat: AJ Dillon had 93 yards on 18 carries in the game, a 5.2 yards per carry average, and a rushing touchdown. The 93 yards rushing was the second most of his career. He had 119 total yards from scrimmage, the third-most in his career. He had back-to-back games with TDs, the first time in his career.
Bad Stat: The Bears completed 80% of their passes, 20-for-25. It was the 15th time since 1974 that the Packers allowed the opponents to complete 80% or higher of their pass attempts. This was only the second win of these 15 games. It was the second time this season that the opposition competed 80%+ of their passes in a game; it happened against the Tennessee Titans, who completed 24-of-29 passes (82.8%) in their 27-17 win over the Packers.
Good Stat: Keisean Nixon had an interception and 102 kickoff return yards in the game. He became only the second Packers’ player in team history to have an interception and 100+ yards on kick-off returns in the same game. The other? Herb Adderly did it on November 18, 1962, when he had an interception and 103 yards on kickoff returns versus Baltimore in a 17-13 Packers’ victory.
No sacks for the Packers’ defense
Bad Stat: The Packers defense did not have a sack in the game. It was the second game without a sack this season. Since 2015, Green Bay is now 3-9 in games when they do not record a sack in the game.
Good Stat: Aaron Rodgers had one TD pass and did not throw an interception. In his career, Rodgers has one or more TD passes and zero interceptions in 130 career regular season games. That is second most in NFL history behind Tom Brady (161). Green Bay is 102-27-1 (.788 winning percentage) when Rodgers had one or more TD passes and no interceptions in a game.
Good Stat: De’Vondre Campbell led the Packers’ defense with 11 tackles (seven solo, four assists) after missing the previous four games due to injury. It was his seventh game with 10+ tackles in his last 13 games played.
Interesting Stat: Marcedes Lewis was on the receiving end of a two-point conversion pass from Aaron Rodgers in the contest. By scoring two points in the game, he became the second oldest non-kicker to score a point in a game for the Packers. The oldest? Zeke Bratkowski had a TD in 1971 at the age of 39 years-355 days. Lewis was 39 years-199 days yesterday.
Christian Watson continues his push for Offensive ROY honors
Good Stat: Christian Watson had a receiving TD and a rushing TD in the game. He became the 16th rookie receiver in NFL history to have a receiving TD and rushing TD in the same game. He is also the first Packers’ rookie to accomplish this feat.
Bad Stat: The Bears scored first in the game on a field goal. The Packers have scored first in the game only three times this season. That is tied for the fewest times in the league in 2022 with Arizona, Houston, and Washington.
Good Stat: Mason Crosby had two field goals and two extra points for eight points in the game. That gives him 129 games (regular season and playoffs) in his career with eight points or more in a game. That places him sixth on the all-time list.
Good Stat: The Bears had a 19-10 lead over the Packers going into the fourth quarter. The Bears have had a nine-point or larger lead over the Packers going into the fourth quarter in 40 games since 1921. From 1921-2007, the Bears won 38 of 38 of those games. In the last two games where they had a nine-point or larger lead going into the fourth quarter, the Packers have won… in Sunday’s contest, and in 2018 when the Pack rallied from a 20-3 deficit going into the fourth quarter and won 24-23 by outscoring the Bears 21-3 in the final quarter.
