Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy coached the team from 2006-2018. After he coached the Packers, he took a year off from coaching in the NFL.
After that, McCarthy was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He has been the head coach for the Cowboys since the 2020 season. His contract was up after the 2024 season and Dallas finished the 2024 season with a 7-10 record.

On Monday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, he reported:
“Sources: Mike McCarthy is out as #Cowboys coach. The sides couldn’t agree on length of contract and McCarthy will pursue other opportunities. He leaves Dallas with a winning record and three playoff appearances.”
It appeared as if Mike McCarthy was going to return and coach the Dallas Cowboys next year. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case now and the Cowboys will be looking for a new head coach. That would be fascinating if the Dallas Cowboys called the Pittsburgh Steelers and traded for head coach Mike Tomlin. Pittsburgh would probably hang up the phone on Dallas in two seconds. Now, it will be hard for the Cowboys to find a replacement for Mike McCarthy. McCarthy is free from working for owner Jerry Jones.
Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints Potential Destinations
There is a chance next year that the Green Bay Packers could be facing Mike McCarthy twice a season. McCarthy could be a favorite to land the Chicago Bears head coaching job. Another team that he could be coaching next is the New Orleans Saints.
It will be interesting to see where McCarthy goes for 2025. There is also a possibility that he doesn’t coach next year as well.
