Marquette Golden Eagles’ time as among the Top 10 college basketball programs in the country did not last long as the latest AP Ranking revealed they have dropped to no. 11 from no. 10. Wisconsin Badgers have similar fate.

The slide is the second for the Golden Eagles which went from no. 7 to no. 10 two weeks ago. It is also the first time they are out of Top 10 since mid-November last year.
Coach Shaka Smart’s squad reaped different results in their last two outings. They won against Butler Bulldogs on the road through a spirited comeback led by Stevie Mitchell who tied his career high of 22 points.
It was a different story though on February 1, the most important day for Marquette students.

The team bowed to the UConn Huskies who visited them during the National Marquette Day. Their problem again was their slow first half start as they surrendered a 13-point lead coming into the second half.
They tried their best to get back into the game, led by Kam Jones who scored 22 and Chase Ross who had 13, but they ran out of time.
Wisconsin Badgers drops in ranking, too
Wisconsin Badgers went 1-1 last week but despite that, they moved from 24th spot to 18th. That was tied for the largest leap during that period of AP Top 25 Press Poll ranking.
They have similar record last week but their standing went the opposite side. They did not climb and instead lost three spots.

Why the stark difference? Badger of Honor’s Mark Knight suggested that it was because of the strength of opponents.
The loss to Maryland should have affected Wisconsin less than the loss to UCLA. To make it even more frustrating, those are the current NET rankings for the teams. Nebraska was much lower last week. Their big win over No. 16 ranked Oregon on Sunday had them jump up from 55 to 50.
The team lost to Maryland Terrapins on Januayr 29 but they were able to redeem themselves against the Northwestern Wildcats.
