Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 2025 summer plans are starting to have more shape as the Greece national basketball team qualifiers for this year’s Eurobasket qualifiers with a game to go.
The Greeks needed an overtime period to beat Czech Republic, 93-89, to secure the top spot with a 5-1 record for 11 points. Their only loss came in the hands of the Great Britain when they were upset by their visitors at home, 72-73.
Behind them are the Great Britain with a 4-2 record, followed by the Czechs (2-4), and the Netherlands (1-5).
Greece did not have most of their stars due to commitments in different tournaments, particularly the Euro League.
Hero of the night was Vassilis Toliopoulos who hit a triple to force overtime. He finished the game with 26 points that included five three pointers.
The EuroBasket qualifiers will be hosted by four countries – Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, and Finland and will take place from August 27 to September 14.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s summer plans
European reports revealed that Antetokounmpo has already confirmed his participation in the tournament.
The announcement was made by national team coach Vassilis Spanoulis.
“This is about what we build in the summer, our relationship. Not just me and Giannis, but between him and the rest of the players,” Spanoulis said via Eurohoops.net.
“How much he enjoyed our journey from the Olympic Qualifying Tournament to the Olympic Games, and that he really desires and is motivated to play this summer.”
There’s one condition Giannis needs to fulfill first before he can join the team – his health.
He is also looking forward to get better with the team after their failed Olympics stint.
“I thought we could have won a medal two years ago in the Eurobasket but we got to play Germany twice which is a great team. We will do our best, coach Spanoulis will create a good team and we put in the effort,” he said.
