After signing a massive extension that will keep him with the Milwaukee Bucks for at least three more years, you could say that Giannis Antetokounmpo has now kept his side of the bargain. At this point, it’s up to the rest of the team to deliver on theirs.
The stage is set for Milwaukee this coming season, and they will now be under a lot of pressure to deliver on the lofty expectations the basketball world has on them in 2023-24.
Giannis Calls on Milwaukee Bucks Teammates to Step It Up
Shortly after putting pen to paper on a $186 million, three-year extension, Giannis sent a strong message for the rest of his squad. Antetokounmpo posted a handful of compelling questions that will need to be answered throughout the season:
“How can we get better?” Giannis stated. “How can we build good habits? How can we be on the court together and play as many minutes as we can together? How can we defend better? How can we get in the right spots and let [Damian Lillard] and Khris (Middleton) and all the guys operate to the best of their ability?”
This isn’t just aimed at his teammates either. As we all know, Giannis is the type who leads by example. Antetokounmpo is able to pose these questions without hesitation simply because they are the same things he has already asked himself multiple times.
Giannis Keeping His Eyes on the Prize
Antetokounmpo also noted that it’s important for him to be able to get his contract out of the way. By his own admission, it was an unwanted distraction that could have prevented him from putting his heart and soul into what matters the most:
“Our focus is going to be straight, strictly basketball,” he continued. “I think I did this in the past. 2020 and it was good for me because I didn’t have to think about it. I didn’t have to put myself in a situation like, ‘Aww, What if? What if? No. I’m committed. I’m here. And I want, with my teammates, to be successful and I want to win another championship.”
