The Milwaukee Bucks met the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night in a high-profile clash led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. Each team matched the other’s intensity and leaned heavily on its star, but Antetokounmpo took over down the stretch and delivered the dagger.

James held the ball in the final seconds and drove toward the basket, considering a finish or a pass out. Antetokounmpo anticipated the play, stepped up, and blocked both options with a decisive defensive stop. On the very next possession, with the Bucks up 103–101, LeBron attacked Giannis again, only to meet the same result, as Antetokounmpo swatted the ball away once more.

Milwaukee secured the loose ball in the scramble that followed and sealed a 105–101 victory.

The win gave Antetokounmpo and the Bucks a much-needed boost and extended Milwaukee’s recent stretch of solid play. The team has now taken six of its last nine games, including three of the past four. Antetokounmpo finished Friday’s victory over the Lakers with 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Kevin Porter Jr. poured in 22 points, Kyle Kuzma added 13 against his former team, and Bobby Portis chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Bucks moved to 2-1 on their four game road trip. Milwaukee has now gone 5-2 since Dec. 27.

On the other side, the loss marked the Lakers’ sixth defeat in their last 10 games and their second straight setback after falling to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Despite the result, James turned in a strong night, finishing with 26 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds against Milwaukee.

Luka Doncic put up 24 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, connecting on four of his six three point attempts while finding it tougher near the rim, where he made just four of his 19 two point tries.

The win keeps Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks squarely in the Eastern Conference play-in picture, with the Bucks trailing the Chicago Bulls by just half a game after Friday’s results. Milwaukee quickly turns its focus to Sunday, when it heads back onto the court for a matchup with Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
