Giannis Antetokounmpo is at it again. Just recently, the seven-time All-Star made his intentions clear again that he will leave the Milwaukee Bucks if a championship is no longer within reach for his current team. The basketball world was pretty much placed on high alert the first time he hinted at his looming Milwaukee exit, so just imagine what impact this will have now that he’s made his declaration for a second time.
One team that has been floated as a potential destination for Giannis is — believe it or not — the Golden State Warriors. Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World has once again talked up a potential partnership between Anteotkounmpo and Stephen Curry in what is quickly becoming a seemingly feasible scenario down the road.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Blockbuster Trade Proposal to Warriors
In his latest trade proposal, Bitar believes that the Warriors should be willing to give up a truly massive haul in exchange for Antetokounmpo. Below are the details of the hypothetical deal:
Golden State Receives: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Receives: Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, 2025 First-Round Pick, 2027 First-Round Pick
Golden State loses a whole lot in this deal, including one of the cornerstones of their dynasty in Draymond Green. Former All-Star Andrew Wiggins will also be a key addition for Milwaukee in their post-Antetokounmpo era. The has to be said for Jonathan Kuminga, who could prove to be a potential star in the right environment. The two future first-round picks secure the Bucks’ future as they look to rebuild in the wake of Giannis’ departure.
If the Warriors can somehow pull this off, however, Giannis Antetokounmpo should definitely be worth his weight in gold. A Big 3 of Curry, Giannis, and Klay Thompson would pretty much be unstoppable on the offensive end. However, Bitar argues that it’s on defense that Golden State will benefit significantly with the arrival of the former Defensive Player of the Year:
“Most importantly, the defense improves. Golden State ranked 21st in OPPG and 17th in defensive rating, as they lacked size and defensive versatility all year. Defensively, adding Giannis to Golden State would create a formidable frontcourt alongside Kevon Looney, as Giannis is one of the best defenders in the league,” Bitar wrote.
Does This Really Have Merit?
This is far from the first time we’ve heard of Giannis potentially taking his talents out to the Bay Area. Previously, renowned broadcaster and analyst Chris Broussard of FS1 also floated the idea of a generational pairing between Antetokounmpo and Curry. Broussard is not alone in thinking that these two would wreak absolute havoc on the NBA.
At this point, we can’t ignore the possibility of Antetokounmpo joining the Warriors. He already said that he would pounce on the opportunity that would give him the best shot at winning another championship. Well, in this respect, there are few better options in the NBA than Golden State.
