There’s no doubt the Badgers suffered a bad loss last week to Washington State. The penalties were a killer and there was a lack of execution especially in the second half. Next one the schedule is the New Mexico State Aggies. The Aggies are currently 0-3 on the year. Here’s what you need to know about Saturday’s opponent.
Expect A Lot Of QB Use
The Badgers can expect a lot of junior quarterback Diego Pavia on Saturday. Pavia has a the ability to hurt you with his arm and his legs. He is currently the Aggies leading rusher with 119 yards and two touchdowns.
What could be challenging is if New Mexico State uses their other quarterback as well. That would be freshman Gavin Frakes. Frakes currently leads the team going 12-25 for 197 yards. He has thrown for one touchdown and three interceptions.
However, as the saying goes, when you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one. It could be a play it out and feel it out by the New Mexico State staff. The Badgers will need to be ready for both Pavia and Frakes.
It’s A Shaky Offense
Despite Pavia being able to use his legs and arms, there isn’t a lot to like about this Aggie offense as a whole. So far this season, they have thrown for one touchdown and six interceptions in three game. The Aggies also average only 3.6 yards a carry, and have scored three touchdowns all season.
While the Aggies did play Minnesota a few weeks ago, they only had 91 total yards as a team. To be honest, this is a bad football team and Saturday should not be a close game at all.
This Should Get The Badgers Back On Track
It was announced yesterday the Badger-Ohio State game next week is 6:30 PM. A great prime time slot for the whole country to watch. This week, however, should get the Badgers back on track. They should feel better about themselves after this week which will be key if they want to stun the third ranked team in the country on the road.
As of now, the only thing I can think of that could present a problem for Wisconsin is the multi-quarterback use for the Aggies. Not only is the offense not putting up anything stellar, but the defense hasn’t been lights out either. The Aggie defense only has three sacks and is yet to record an interception.
This is a good game for Wisconsin to bounce back and get ready for their biggest test of the year next week. This could be over fast in Madison Saturday.
