As you’ve probably heard by now, Odell Beckham Jr. is a free agent. He’s headed to waivers and if he falls all the way to the Packers it’s simple: The Green Bay Packers should sign him. I don’t care what you think of him, OBJ is better than any receiver on the Packers roster not named Davante. The number one reason that his numbers are way way down, is because Baker Mayfield sucks. I’ve already written about why the Packers should upgrade at the WR position.
HE’S A DISTRACTION AND HIS NUMBERS ARE WAY DOWN!!!
Where have I heard that before? Oh…wait. I’m old enough to remember 1996. And I’m old enough to remember when the 8-0 Packers were decimated by injury at the wide receiver position and they had to sign someone after Robert Brooks torn his ACL.
That someone was Andre Rison.
The “player on the decline”. The “distraction”.
“Bad Moon” played the prior season with Cleveland & then signed with Jacksonville. He was released midseason and then was signed by Green Bay. Rison started 4 games for The Packers and caught 13 passes for 135 yards and a TD. In the playoffs, he went 7/143/2 in 3 games including a TD catch IN THE SUPERBOWL. The signing was MASSIVE.
History can repeat itself.
Rison was no distraction.
He was a major contributor on offense.
The Lombardi trophy came home to Green Bay.
I’d say that worked out. #OBJToGB
