Former Wisconsin Badgers guard Chucky Hepburn firmly believes he’s one of the top guards in the country right now, especially after having a career night to lead his current team, the Louisville Cardinals, to a 79-70 overtime victory over West Virginia on Thursday.
“It’s senior year. I think I lay in the back seat for a long time,” Hepburn told ESPN after the win via Jacob Padilla on X (formerly known as Twitter). “It’s time to show the world who Chucky Hepburn is. I’m a bucket-getter, one of the best point guards in the country, and I stand by that.”
The 21-year-old guard, who left the Wisconsin Badgers program in April, recorded 32 points, three rebounds, two assists, and six steals on 8-for-12 shooting and 14-for-17 from the free throw line.
Chucky Hepburn’s 32 points is a career-high for him, surpassing his previous career-high of 27 points in the Wisconsin Badgers’ 75-71 win in the NIT second round on March 19, 2023.
He scored 10 of his 32 points in overtime, including his crucial three-point play with 2:20 left to give Louisville the lead for good.
Former Wisconsin Badgers star is thriving with the Louisville Cardinals
Chucky Hepburn is now averaging 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 4.2 steals in 29 minutes per game. His current steals average is the best in the country since nobody else averages more than four.
This is a huge jump for Hepburn since he played behind Johnny Davis, A.J. Storr, and Tyler Wahl last season.
With the former Wisconsin Badgers guard leading the way, the Louisville Cardinals are now 5-1 on the season, and they’ve clinched their berth at the 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis championship game.
Hepburn and the Louisville Cardinals will take on the undefeated Oklahoma Sooners tomorrow.
