Since 2012, FIBA has held a 3×3 basketball tournament for both men’s and women’s teams. Since that first tournament in Athens, Greece, it has been held five other times (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019). For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, FIBA is hosting the 3×3 basketball tournament again in 2022. This time it will be hosted in Antwerp, Belgium. Team USA will, of course, be participating, and will feature former Wisconsin Badgers star Kahlil Iverson.
Kahlil Iverson as a Wisconsin Badgers Player
Khalil Iverson played four seasons with the Wisconsin Badger from 2015-2019. During that time, he averaged 5.4 points and 3.7 rebound per game. His best season was his junior year in 2017-18. That season, Iverson averaged 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds.
Kahlil Iverson’s Post-College Career
After Kahlil Iverson went undrafted in 2019, he played for the Grand Rapids Wolves of the NBA G-League. Most recently, though, he has played overseas in Finland as a member of Lahti Basketball. During the 2021-22 season, Iverson averaged 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 48/43/66 from the floor.
This will be Iverson’s first appearance with Team USA’s 3×3 team.
Team USA Is the Defending FIBA Tournament Champion
Team USA won the last FIBA 3×3 men’s tournament in 2019. However, the team failed to qualify for the 3×3 basketball tournament that was part of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
Robbie Hummel, who Badgers fan may remember from his days as a Purdue player, was the tournament MVP.
Back in 2016, former Illinois basketball player Myke Henry was named to the FIBA 3×3 Team of the Tournament.
Former UW-Green Bay basketball star Alfonzo McKinnie helped Team USA to a Silver Medal in the 2016 FIBA 3×3 Tournament.
